Biography

Jimmie Lee (Aswad) was born 2/24/49 in Jonestown, Mississippi and migrated to Chicago at the early age of six. I was raised by caring and loving parents and resided at 1443 S. St Louis in a close-knit community. I first attended Herzl Elementary School and Hess Upper Grade in the North Lawndale Community. I was actually in the swimming pool at Hess when President Kennedy was assassinated. I can still remember the announcement; they ordered us out of the pool and sent us home. Before moving to the Henry Horner Projects (double H) in the early 60s, I stayed at 1431 S. Harding for a short time and continued to hang in the old hood. I attended Crane Tech and while I didn't graduate I received a High School Equivalency Certificate from Livingston County on April 13, 1972. After that I went to Mac Murray College and got an Associate of Applied Science and Certificate in Food Service Technology on June 30th 1995. In 2018, I received the Metropolitan Peace Academy Lifelong Learner Award and presently attend Chicago State University. I am a Youth Development Coach / Violence Intervention Prevention Service at UCAN. Yes, I am still in love with our beloved community. Please do not give up, take advantage of the programs available. Save the children and save ourselves. May the Almighty shower you with his Mercy and Blessing.
