What is “Black Boy Joy”?
Black Boy Joy is the feeling you carry as a Black child growing up — the rush of happiness and warmth that comes from being around the people you love and doing the things that make you feel most like yourself. It’s that pure, almost electric sense of joy that lives in everyday moments.
This exhibition is a celebration of my childhood and the memories that shaped me. As I step into young adulthood, these works serve as a reminder to hold on to that joy — the same joy I felt as a kid — and to carry it forward no matter where life goes. Black Boy Joy is about honoring those moments of happiness, community, and freedom that helped define who I am.
